What are any of us, aside from poetry in motion? We are moving lines and blending shapes Hearts in rhythm Yet souls in a cage So heavy that we slide deep and bury ourselves Capable of flight with wings of paper and eyes ablaze We are fragile and a force, forever holding ourselves in self-made chains Only to sigh and break one link with each breath Each dawn we are new Each night we are dead

There are some things that I would rather never know again Things that I clutch to my heaving chest And they cut me Oh do they But I keep them all in cages And they flutter like birds Only really like heartbeats pounding on frail ribs Yet there is a heaviness, a weight like a stone in my gut And I am held back Always steps so far behind Still I grow, even when everyone else is already long gone Everything still so new as I grow older

I told myself that there was peace within the pieces that you left of me That a quiver on the wind was a shiver at the coming storm of you There was something in the space between your eyes and mine, Something in the flutter of a dying heartbeat As the sun set on us I crave just an hour Just a second Just a breath Just a lie I really want eternity lost in the rapture Because it was pain that I found between you and I And it was sharp But it was better than not knowing Better than false idols And more than the sum of all of my broken words Broken promises And our two broken hearts

Breathe me in deep and tell me that you forgot my name again, That I'm a lost cause and you're just out looking for a heart to break Carve your name across my back with your fingernails and leave a message behind so that I can find myself ashamed again for letting you back through my front door I know that I wont be able to look at myself in the mirror when I get up in the morning, won't be able to console myself long after you're gone again And all that you will leave behind is an open window and a dingy curtain blowing in the breeze ...That and a single word Because I won't forget your name
